Read MoreAs early as 1907 six candidates for the priesthood, hailing from Chotanagpur, were studying philosophy at Kandy Seminary, Sri Lanka. To assure a better training, more adapted to local conditions and requirements, a philosophy course was started at Ranchi Apostolic School in 1911 with six students on its rolls.
Under the name of St. Albert's a Major Seminary was inaugurated at Bankuli, some sixteen miles south-west of Ranchi, in January 1914. In 1916 it was transferred to its present location.
We focus on each student’s total formation, i.e. personal, spiritual, intellectual and pastoral, which is deemed essential for the training of future priests. These are the four pillars of integral formation being imparted at St. Albert’s College Ranchi.
This pillar focuses on developing the personal and relational skills of the students, helping them to become well-rounded individuals, who are capable of healthy relationships and effective communication.
This pillar focuses on developing the students’ relationship with God through prayer, meditation and spiritual direction. This area of formation aims at deepening the faith of the individuals and helping them to grow in holiness.
This pillar focuses on developing the students’ intellectual abilities and knowledge of the Catholic faith. Furthermore, this involves theological and philosophical studies, as well as an understanding of Church history and Canon Law.
This pillar focuses on developing the students’ ability to serve as a pastor and leader in the Church. Accordingly, this area of formation includes practical training in preaching, sacramental ministry, counseling, reaching out to the marginalized and other pastoral skills.
